Maria Hiers
Maria Hiers lived the typical nomadic life of a military dependent: Born at Eglin AFB, she traveled America and the world as she grew up. She then married into the Navy, never living longer than three years in any place. She struggles to call any one place home.
She and her husband, Sidney, served as missionaries in Guatemala for fifteen years where they raised their four children. They currently live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where they pastor Iglesia Biblica Bautista Tuscaloosa a small Spanish church through First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa for the past seventeen years. She is now grandmother to nine, ranging in ages from 8 – 22.
She is also the author of the book Valley of the Shadow, a story of a missionary’s struggle with despair while holding on to hope. She is excited to share in writing again after so many years. She is currently working as a Financial Administrator at a local church in Tuscaloosa.
